The Atlantic Centre is hosting an online event on the 20 of July 2021, at 13h00 (GMT+1) to promote the UNODC report “Pirates of the Niger Delta: between brown and blue waters".  With this initiative, we expect to raise awareness around this subject and disseminate the findings of this work, which are extremely relevant to address piracy and improve existing policies on the subject.

The Gulf of Guinea has become a hotspot of maritime piracy, affecting countries in the region and international trade. Over the last years, a proliferation of initiatives has developed, with regional originations, donors and partners engaging with regional actors to minimize the negative impacts of these activities on maritime security.  The UNODC report, developed with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, provides a valuable tool to improve the efficiency of existing policies and better target the sources of piracy and armed robbery in this strategic region in the Atlantic.

Considering the mission of the Atlantic Centre is to contribute to improving the security cooperation in the Atlantic, we are pleased to team-up with the UNODC and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in disseminating the findings of this land-mark report. The Atlantic Centre would be pleased to count on your presence.
